When I started out placing chords for songs the chords matched the way I sang the songs myself. There are several hundred such songs on the site like this. When Marc started to lend a hand he put the chords to suit a youtube video.
But as I said there are hundreds that don't suit the youtube videos and I have started to match the guitar chords to whatever video is on the page. This is not to say you should only play a song using the chords that match the youtube videos, as not everybody sings in the same key.
The main reason I'm doing this is so you can play along with the videos on the page. This also makes for great practise. I also enjoy playing along with my favorite singer or band but when I'm playing in a session I choose a key that best fits my own voice.
There are about two thousand songs on this site. I have already done about 100 so far and am concentrating on the most well known songs. If you want a song in a particular key then let me know and I'll put chords to the way you want to sing it or the key that your favorite singer/band play it in.
But I will also keep the original chords that I put to songs years ago. These are generally in the three chord format.
Somebody recently requested a Damien Rice song called The Blowers Daughter, the thing is that the guitar chords for that song are on about 30 websites and every one of those sites have it in the key of A Major. [ They All Copied One Another ] The person who requested it didn't want it in that key as not everybody sings the same as Damien Rice. It's good to know how to change keys of a song and there's an easy chart on this site which shows how to change keys and chords.
