Sweet Kerry Song Lyrics By Seamus Moore

This is one of the better songs about Kerry even though it's not very well known. Kerry is known as ''The Kingdom'' county of Ireland. The song was covered by singer Seamus Moore .
Sweet Kerry you know I love you,
And the mountains up above you.
The rivers and strems I played as a boy.
Of the places so grand, In my native Ireland.
Sure I love my County Kerry,
And that's where one day I'll be.

You may travell through Castleisland,
Farronfore and The Gap Of Dunlow,
And look onpo Killarney's Lakes
From the hights of Aherdo.
You may see Kate Karney's Cottage
Or the clear Torc waterfall.
As I move along the south coast,
Through the town of Annascaul.

Sweet Kerry you know I love you,
And the mountains up above you.
The rivers and strems I played as a boy.
Of the places so grand, In my native Ireland.
Sure I love my County Kerry,
And that's where one day I'll be.

It's then you'll view the Connor Pass,
And dear old Dingle Town.
The whistling of the Sea Gulls,
As they fly up and down,
Ballyheigh Listowl and Causeway
Ardfert and Cahirciveen
And the place I know where I was born,
Is my native town Tralee.

Sweet Kerry you know I love you,
And the mountains up above you.
The rivers and strems I played as a boy.
Of the places so grand, In my native Ireland.
Sure I love my County Kerry,
And that's where one day I'll be.

this song is pure unfiltered Kerry pride — the kind of tune that would make a Kerryman weep into his pint and whisper, “Jaysus, there’s no place like home.” Let’s crack into it with some Irish wit and local slagging:

This is basically a musical love letter to County Kerry — and trust me, Kerry folk don’t do modesty when it comes to praising their homeland. The singer is swooning over the place like it’s a Hollywood film star:
“Sweet Kerry you know I love you.”
Aye, he’s talking to the county like it’s a woman he’s trying to charm into giving him a kiss behind the hay shed.
He reminisces about childhood streams and rivers as if he was some sort of barefoot woodland pixie --
in reality, he probably fell in them more times than he’d admit.

Then we go on a grand tour of Kerry:
  • Castleisland – where the cows outnumber the people
  • Farranfore – known mainly for the airport and very little else
  • Gap of Dunloe – a stunning spot, and a great place to bring a date…
    • until midges attack and ruin the romance
  • Killarney’s Lakes – so picturesque they nearly charge you just to look at them
  • Kate Kearney’s Cottage – where half the tourists get fleeced buying overpriced fudge
  • Annascaul – home of Tom Crean, the Antarctic legend
    • and also some pubs that could freeze you quicker than the South Pole
The song continues like a lad showing visitors around Kerry while insisting everyone else’s county is inferior by comparison.

Then he gets poetic:
“the whistling of the sea gulls, as they fly up and down”
Translation:
“Mind your chips, they’ll rob them right out of your hand.”
We get a roll call of Kerry spots:
  • Dingle
  • Ballyheigue
  • Listowel — land of writers and smart alecks
  • Causeway
  • Ardfert — where people go “is that near Tralee?”
  • Cahersiveen — where every second house is a pub
  • and finally… Tralee
    • where he was born, raised, and likely barred from several establishments.

Final message?
If you slag Kerry, this lad will fight you.
If you praise Kerry, he’ll buy you a pint.
If you say Galway is nicer — he’ll call you blind.
And when he says:
“That’s where one day I’ll be,”
you can almost hear him muttering,
“As soon as I escape wherever I’m stuck now!”
It’s sentimental, it’s proud, it’s dripping in love for the Kingdom --
Sure isn’t Kerry God’s own county?
Just ask anyone from Kerry --
they’ll tell you themselves!
