Connolly Would Lyrics And Chords

To see my well-loved Ireland
These days it makes me sigh, I think old union fighter James Connolly would cry! He’d yell his rage and raise his voice So working men might wake And see that like in former times The chance istheirs to take. We wouldn’t droop, we wouldn’t wail But united we would stand For only joint we can prevail When we work hand in hand. When we work hand in hand. For centuries of bondage Brave men did fight and die To free their beloved country - James Connolly would cry! He’d yell his rage and raise his voice So working men might act Just like in nineteen-sixteen when The British rule was wrecked. We wouldn’t crouch, we wouldn’t hide But united we would stand Like Connolly by Pearse’s side To save our native land. To save our native land. The way our politicians Tell Europe their dawn lie That we’re no more in trouble - James Connolly would cry! He’d yell his rage and raise his voice So working men might list And realize that they, who rule Will only catch the fist. We wouldn’t be calm we wouldn’t be nice But united we would stand And those in charge would pay the prize For how they ruined this land. For how they ruined this land. Recession, no perspectives And unemployment’s high While bankers count their money - James Connolly would cry! He’d yell his rage and raise his voice So working men might see That it’s no more the Brits who reign But France and Germany. We wouldn’t obey, we wouldn’t dispute But united we would stand And show this European brood That we’re a fighting band That we’re a fighting band What’s left of his great vision When people bid goodbye And seek there fortune elsewhere? James Connolly would cry! He’d yell his rage and raise his voice So working men might know That they’re the ones who have the might To strike a mighty blow. We wouldn’t leave but rise and fight And united we would stand To build the land for which he died, A nation proud and grand. A nation proud and grand |
