The Wexford Carol Guitar Chords And Lyrics

An Irish traditional Christmas song. The tin whistle sheet music notes for the D tuned whistle are included along with the piano letter notes for beginners. This song comes from Enniscourty and dates back to the 12th century. Recently recorded by Celtic Woman. I have included the words in As Gaeilge [ lyrics ] as there's a good chance that's the language it was originally written in.The Wexford carol mandolin 4 string tenor banjo tab included which can be used to play on the piano / keyboard also..The Wexford Carol Guitar Tab Fingerstyle included.
[D]Good people all, this [Bm]Christmas[A]time,
Consider [D]well and [F]bear in[C] mind
What [D]our good God for[Bm] us has [A]done,
In sending [D]His be[G]loved [D]Son.
With Mary [F]holy we should pray
To God with [D]love this [F]Christmas [C]Day
In [D]Bethlehem u[Bm]pon that [A]morn
There was a [D]blessed Mes[G]siah [D]born.

Near Bethlehem did shepherds keep
Their flocks of lambs and feeding sheep;
To whom God's angels did appear,
Which put the shepherds in great fear.
"Prepare and go," the angels said,
"To Bethlehem, be not afraid;
For there you'll find, this happy morn,
A princely Babe, sweet Jesus born."

With thankful heart and joyful mind,
The shepherds went the Babe to find,
And as God's angel had foretold,
They did our Saviour Christ behold.
Within a manger He was laid,
And by his side the Virgin Maid,
As long foretold, there was a blessed Messiah born

💡 Playing Tips

Use steady triplet feel: Thumb (bass) → fingers (together) → fingers (together).

Let the melody sing clearly — on most measures, the top note on the high E or B string is your melody note.

Let open strings ring where possible for warmth.

For a gentle finish, strum softly on the final G chord.

The Wexford Carol In Irish Gaeilge

An Carol Loch Garman
Good daoine go léir, an uair seo na Nollag,
Smaoinigh go maith agus a choimeád i gcuimhne
Cad tá ár Dia maith dúinn a rinneadh
I sheoladh a mhac beloved
Le Máire naofa chóir dúinn guí,
Le grá do Dhia an Lá Nollag
I mBeithil ar sin morn,
Bhí Messiah bheannaigh rugadh
An oíche roimh an lán sásta
Na Maighdine uasal agus a threorú
Bhí am ar fad ag iarraidh suas agus síos
Chun teacht ar a thaisceadh sa bhaile
Ach marc ceart go maith cad a tháinig chun pas a fháil
Ó repelled gach doras, faraor
Mar a bhí foretold, a dhídean ar fad
An raibh ach damh humble's stalla
Near raibh Bethlehem shepherds choinneáil
A gcaoirigh na n-uan caorach agus beathú
Cé dó ar thug aingeal Dé láithriú
Cé acu a chur ar an haoirí i eagla mhór
Agus dul chun cinn, a dúirt an angels
Go Beithil ní, a eagla
Chun go mbainfidh tú, an morn sona
A leanbh beag princely, Íosa milis, a rugadh
Le buíoch croí agus aigne joyful
Na haoirí chuaigh an leanbh a aimsiú
Agus bhí foretold mar aingeal Dé
raibh siad ár Slánaitheora Críost behold
Laistigh de manger a leagadh air
Agus ag a thaobh bean maighdean
Ag freastal ar an Tiarna na Beatha
Cé a tháinig ar an talamh go deireadh gach achrann
Bhí triúr fear ciallmhar ó gcéin
D'ordaigh ag le réalta glórmhar
Agus ar ghri siad oíche agus lá
Go dtí gur tháinig siad nuair a leagan Íosa
Agus nuair a tháinig siad ris an áit sin
I gcás ina leagan ár Messiah beloved
chaith siad humbly iad ar a chosa
Le bronntanais óir agus incense milis.
