The Irish Navy Lyrics And Chords

6/8 From what I heard Ronnie Drew And Luke Kelly wrote this song. It's an old one and a bit outdated to the fact that the three vessel mentioned in the song were decommissioned and scrapped decades ago (and there probably won't be a Russian invader anymore...). A more up-to-date version could therefore for example use the names: The Emer, LÉ Niamh and LÉ Róisín which are all ships in active service of the Irish Fleet (although Emer is also to be replaced within several years by a new ship). Return to The Dubliners Songs

Chorus
The (G)Clíona, the Meabh and the (D)Mucha
The (G)pride of the Irish na(C)vy
When the (G)Captain he blows on his (D)whistle
All the sailors go home for their (G)tea

While the (G)army is off in the (D)Kongo
In (G)Cyprus or some foreign (C)parts
Our (G)navy is strained to the (D)limits
Deploying its nautical (G)acts
One day from the Russian in(D)vader
De(G)fending our very odd (C)fish
We (G)found it was just the red (D)herring
From the signals we got from the (G)cis'

Chorus

Each (G)year they go on man(D)oeuvres
To pre(G)pare for defence they are (C)keen
Some(G)times it's the Lakes of Kill(D)arney
More often the pond in the (G)Green
The canal it could be of as(D)sistance
In de(G)fending our own holy (C)ground
But (G)due to proposed legis(D)lation
We'll have to sail all the way (G)round

Chorus

We (G)are a seafaring (D)nation
De(G)fence of our land is a (C)right
We'd (G)fight like the devil all (D)morning
Provided we're home by the (G)night

Chorus
