The Face Behind The Window

A Song About The Effects Of The Covid-19 Virus on one family. Written by Alec Latimer,  dedicated to all those who died preventable deaths in our nursing homes due to delayed testing for Covid 19,called ( The face behind the window) written shortly after Alec's mother passed away at the start of this pandemic,  it’s a sad song and the F- word is used once in it and it’s a bit of an epic but so too were the lives of all those men and women no longer with us . The youtube video here is by Alexc's wife's cousin from Arazona, Mooneen  G  Zalazar to the tune of on my own from Les Mis.
As the Devil's virus ravaged your nursing home
it cut to the bone like a deadly cyclone
Delayed testing was a real heartbreaker
cost your life and sent you to your maker.
As we traded for lives, old for young,
On life's scrapheap you were flung
When you took your last breath coughing
meant a closed lid on your coffin.
As your family shake from the heartbreak
For f'''s sake we even denied you a wake.
I know you were old but one last time to hold
the face behind the window.

Chorus.
Old and grey a high price to pay
We got no say, or other place to stay,
testing is focused on the young
Hopeing your time will come you hold your tongue,
Each day you awake to shiver and shake
but we deny you a wake, for Ireland's sake.
Life's starting to ebb and flow and you know
Time's running out for the face behind the window.

Makes your blood run cold
The way we treated the old
Our solution, like you made no contribution.
Judgement day for you has come and gone,
But for us left here, to carry on,
must learn the lessons , or it won't be long
For the Devil and his hellfire virus,
To return and sing a second chorus.
When your final breath you took, your very last look,
Saw frowns wearing gowns behind that window
And your family cry as they said goodbye,
to the face behind the window.

Bridge

Every face behind the window we have allowed to die.
Was a parent to someone, once a girl or boy,
You deserved honour, as you left this existence
Not a group of 6 people observing social distance.

Repeat chorus
