Sentimental Irish song lyrics and guitar chords

Written by Nicholas McCarthy. Recorded by Mike Denver who's biggest hit on this site is Absent Friends song, and this ballad was also covered by accordion player and singer Brendan Shine plus Tony Kenny. I have given two versions of the chords. The first is by Mike Denver in the key of D. There's a Bm in this version, if you don't like playing Bm then just play a D instead and you'll be close enough.
Brendan Shine is probably better known for Catch Me If You Can Song than any other of his hits, and there has been many.
Mike Denver version of the chords
Intro. chords D  G  D  A  D
[D]If you've ever longed with aching heart to cross that other oc[G]ean
To go back home just one more time to where your grandmother came from
If your [D]children share the love you feel and it [G]fills your heart with pride
Then you are [D]sentimental Irish deep inside

[D]If you're holding on to some sweet dream instead of letting go
If your [G]thoughts are filled with memories of times long long ago
And if you [D]love each blade of grass so green from [G]Cork to Donaghadee
Then you are [D]sentimental [A]Irish just like [D]me

You are [Bm]sentimental Irish with your heart upon your [G]sleeve
And nothing in this [D]world could change the way you [A]feel
And if you [D]shed a tear drop now [G]and then when no-one else can see
Then you are [D]sentimental [A]Irish just like [D]me

[D]If you still recall your mother's words from when you were a child
And [G]sometimes in a crowded room you see your father's smile
And [D]you would give just anything to live that memo[G]ry
Then you are [D]sentimental [A]Irish just like [D]me

You are [Bm]sentimental Irish with your [D]heart upon your[A] sleeve
[G]And nothing in this [D]world could ever change the way you [A]feel
And if you [D]shed a tear drop now and then when [G]no-one else can see
Then you are [D]sentimental [A]Irish just like [D]me
