About The Song.
this song is a glorious Irish brag-fest, sung by a fella who loves himself more than a politician loves a microphone. Dan is a legend in his own mind — a charmer, a dancer, a rogue, and a devil for the ladies — or so he’d have you believe.

He introduces himself like a man walking into a pub with a wink and a swagger:
“I’m Páídín from Tullabhadín --
I’ve got money and acres of land.”

Which, in Irish translation, means:
“I might own two cows and a half-acre bog, but I’m telling the story, so don’t question it.”
He’s looking for a woman with “a bit of money”, proving romance is gorgeous — especially when it comes with cash.

He claims he loves dancing — ceili, Stack of Barley, waltzes, jigs, reels — you name it. He likes “swinging when Big Tom is singing,” which is proof he’s either a great dancer or a health hazard on the floor.
And at FIFTY, he calls himself “awful shifty,” meaning:
He can still chase a skirt with surprising speed — but might need to rest after.

Then he declares he’s heading to Lisdoonvarna — Ireland’s famous matchmaking festival — where desperate bachelors and hopeful ladies gather under tents like livestock at a fair. Dan plans for:
  • craic
  • women
  • and beer
Not necessarily in that order.

He even starts name-dropping connections like a fella trying to impress at a wedding:
  • a brother in the Gardaí
  • an uncle in the Dáil
This suggests that if you marry Dan, you might get out of speeding tickets and into political scandals.
He boasts he’s a charmer and a mighty farmer — a romantic combo rarely advertised simultaneously.

Then he finishes with the grand conclusion:
If any young woman is looking for a man — hop the bus to Lisdoonvarna and hunt him down.
Because, as he keeps reminding us like a Tayto advert on loop:
“Catch me if you can — me name is Dan — sure I’m yer man!”

In short, this song is:
  • a jaunty romantic advertisement
  • a shameless personal promotion
  • a travel brochure for Lisdoonvarna
  • and a hilarious portrait of a cheerful, cocky Irish bachelor
Dan is the kind of man who may not catch many women — but by God, he’ll chase them with gusto and a grin.
As we’d say:
He’s fifty, flirty, and functionally delusional — but full of fun and harmless charm.
