Please fill up my paper cup lyrics
Written by Alec Latimer. Many families mine included have a close family member who has succumbed to alcohol and they know first hand the devastation caused not only to the original family but also any partner and children of the person involved, this lyric depicts the very slippery slope ahead for a young man starting out on that downward spiral to oblivion.

Please fill up my paper cup
In the cool of evening, as the sun starts to set
The pavement I walk on, all shiny and wet
Arrive at a cafe, for something to eat
Glance out the window, and across the street
Sat there is a young man with his knees bent up
Blank stare on his face, beside him a paper cup
Is it alcohol or drugs has him in this state
Any hope for him now or is it already too late
A large coke bottle he puts to his lips
And the contents of this he slowly sips
Guessing the liquid inside is alcohol-laced
That is the cause of this human waste.
chorus
Don’t pass on by, stop and ask me why
I’m down on my luck, please fill up my paper cup
There's a jingle from a coin as it settles in his cup
Soon be enough in there, to buy another sup
Most folk pass him by like clouds in the sky
Not one of them stops to ask him why
A healthy young man that's in his prime
Is sitting there begging and in decline
A young woman races past, heading for the super mart
Two souls, two worlds, but a million miles apart
As I sit here and ponder, the reason why
Is there any real difference, between him and I
Watching the street lights as they come on dim
He could be me and I could be him
chorus
Don’t pass on by, stop and ask me why
I’m down on my luck, please fill up my paper cup
Does he feel the cold, will he ever grow old
Has his soul to the devil forever been sold
Will he always stink, of the demon drink
Head on his knees, lost the family link
How much further has he left to fall
Before there’s nothing of him, left at all
How many lives will be torn asunder
Before they finally put him six feet under
As I stare out the window, I ask myself again
Is there any real difference, between us two men
For Karma's warm embrace, I go down on bended knee
Because I could be him, and - He -could-be-me
Chorus
Don’t pass on by, stop and ask me why
I’m down on my luck, please fill up my paper cup
REPEAT CHORUS
Don’t pass on by, stop and ask me why
I’m down on my luck, please- fill-up-my-paper-cup
