Me Old Country Home Lyrics And Chords

By Seamus Moore. A song from the County Mayo where Seamus ends up in a nursing home. He's some man for one man. Brendan Shine had a song out that used the same name, but had different lyrics than this song. This song was recently recorded by Michael Togher in February 2016 who named it ''The Old County Home''. I have included the chords for Seamus Moore's version first, but there's not much difference in the two versions of chords anyway. The tune used in the song is the old traditional air ''The Nightingale song'' which singer Johnny McEvoy had out way back.

[G]Fifty miles of a [Em]distance I've [C]travelled by [G]car.
From the [Em]Town Of Belmullet to [Am]old Castle[D]bar.
From [G]Bangor to ,,,,,,sure the [C]time was me [D]own
'Till at [G]last I a[Em]rrived in the [C]old country [G]home

I arrived there one morning the hour it was late.
I was kindly admitted by a gent at the gate.
He asked me some questions and rang on the phone.
To get me a bed in the old country home.

The bed being secure I then took off me hat.
I took off me clothes and then jumped in the bath.
The water was warm and the suds they did foam.
You must be perfectly clean in the old country home.

Every tuesday and Thursday the barber comes in,
With razor as sharp as a bookmakers pen.
He'll shave you and scrub you right into the bone.
You must be perfectly clean in the old country home.

Me temperature was taken written down on the chart.
Every tick every moan every beat of me heart.
When the doctors come in sure the patients do roam.
For fear they might die in the old country home.

Fifty miles of a distance by road and by car
From the Town Of Belmullet to old Castlebar
Through Ballycry and Mulranny, the time is me own.
I've setteled here now in me old country home.
I'm as happy as Larry in me old country home

Brendan Shine - My Old Country Home Lyrics

Now when I was a young man I wanted to roam
So I packed up my suitcase and I left my home
My mother was crying, dad with tears in his eyes
Said stand proud like a man son, and they weaved their goodbye's

Now I wondered to Scotland, from Dundee to Arren
From Glasgow to Sterling''''
Now my travelling is over and I'll never more roam
Just to sit by the fire in my own country home.

[ Nonsensical Gibberish ]

I've been in the Welsh Mountains, I've hear birds singing
From Carling to Pembrook, Ah their voices are winning
Now my travelling is over and I'll never more roam
Just to sit by the fire in my own country home.

I've been to old Ireland, to Derry and Kerry
From Bantry to Dublin, I came back on the ferry
Now my travelling is over and I'll never more roam
Just to sit by the fire in my own country home.

[ Nonsensical Gibberish ]

And I sit here ''' of the miles I have travelled
And the accent I heard there and the tails I unravelled
Now my travelling is over and I'll never more roam
Just to sit by the fire in my own country home.
