C)Cast your eyes on a (F)spot, dear Lord, it’s a (C)spot that’s close to (G)hell, It’s a (C)burning, boiling (F)cauldron, where (C)people, they must (G)dwell. The (C)sun won’t shine in (F)my backyard, it’s (C)hidden by the (G)wall The (C)moon and stars just (F)light the night for the (C)cat that claims the (G)wall. In Belfast Wolfe Tones. Written By Brian Warfield
Sectarian violence has no place in a civilised society but it is a cancer that has plagued Ireland and the Irish people for centuries. Many people across the world often wonder why two Christian people are so hurtful to each other. We are often asked for reasons and explanations. There are no simple answers but across the centuries there was a deliberate policy perused by successive English Governments to keep the Irish divided by religions of God. Many of us officials in correspondence to their authorities, remarked that if ever the Protestants and Catholics unite they would lose Ireland. They kept the Irish people from positions of power we imposed penal laws against the Catholic and Presbyterian for centuries and made them pay tithes to the established protestant church. The Irish people were never bigoted or sectarian most of the loaders and representatives of the people were Protestant. Back to the Wolfe Tones Songs |
