Whiskey On A Sunday Song Lyrics And Chords

Glen Hughes wrote this song in Liverpool around 1959. Danny Doyle had a mighty hit with this song, Danny was born in Dublin but now lives in America. The piano sheet music and tin whistle notes for Whiskey On A Sunday are included along with the mandolin / banjo tab. Although this song about whiskey is fairly popular, Whiskey In The Jar Song which is also by The Dubliners is the most popular. There is a three chord version included. Also recorded by The Dubliners. The original first line of the song is ''Bevington Bush'' which got changed to Beggars Bush when it was recorded by Irish singers. Bevington Bush was a hotel in Liverpool.
He[C] sits on the[Am] corner of[Dm] Beggers[F] Bush,the[G] stride of an old packing[C] case,
And the[Am] dolls at the end of the[Dm] plank were [F]dancing,as he[G] crooned wit a smile on his[C] face.
[Chorus]
[Am]Come day[Dm] go day,[G]wishing me heart it was [C]Sunday,
[Am]Drinking Buttermilk[Dm] all the week,[G]Whiskey on a[C] Sunday
[2]
His tired old hands from the wodde beam,
And the puppets they danced up and down,
A far better show than you ever will see,
In the fanciest theater in tow.
[3]
In nineteen O two old Seth Davy died,
And his song was heard no more,
The three dancing dolls in the dustbin were thrown,
And the plank went to mend the back door.
[4]
On some stormy night when your passing that way,
With the wind blowing up from the sea,
You can still hear the sound of old Seth Davy,
As he croons to his dancing dolls three.
Here is a simplified version of the chords in the key of D Major.

Whiskey on a Sunday song lyrics [2]

I wake up with a pounding head
Another night of whiskey, I dread
But it's just another day to me
Drinking away my misery

Chorus:
Whiskey on a Sunday, my only friend
Helps me forget the pain again
I'll raise my glass to the sky
And let the tears fall from my eyes

Verse 2:
I used to have a love so true
But now she's gone, what can I do
I drown my sorrows in this bottle
Hoping it will numb the ache and throttle

Chorus:
Whiskey on a Sunday, my only friend
Helps me forget the pain again
I'll raise my glass to the sky
And let the tears fall from my eyes

Bridge:
I know I should put it down
But it's the only thing that helps me drown
The memories and the heartache
I'll keep drinking, for my own sake

Chorus:
Whiskey on a Sunday, my only friend
Helps me forget the pain again
I'll raise my glass to the sky
And let the tears fall from my eyes

Outro:
So here's to another lonely night
With whiskey on a Sunday, I'll be alright
Until tomorrow, when the pain returns
I'll just keep drinking, until my heart finally learns.
