The Voyage Song Lyrics And Guitar Chords
Written by Johnny Duhan. Recorded by Christy Moore and Johnny Dohan. It would be safe to say that this song was the biggest hit for Christy. Recorded recently by Celtic Thunder.To play along with Christy's version use the guitar chords I have given. Recently recorded by Irish country singer Lee Matthews [ 2014 ]. The voyage guitar tab included.
The Voyage deals with family matters and family history, taking its inspiration from both the family I grew up in and the family I helped form. It is not a sentimental or nostalgic portrait but one that shows up the cracks and strains of marriage, as well as the joy of family life.
When I first released a selection of these songs on a collection called Family Album, my Dublin booking agent dropped me because he maintained that it was impossible to get radio and TV coverage for a product that was out of tune with the times. "The family is a dead institution," he asserted. "Find something else to sing about!"
A few years back I arrived at a TV location to prerecord a duet version of The Voyage with Christy Moore, the first singer to have had a hit with it. Originally Christy and I agreed that I would sing another of my songs and he would perform The Voyage solo (he being the one who had popularised it) but a day or two before the shoot the series' producer contacted me with the news that my solo song had been dropped from the schedule due to lack of space on the programme. Disgruntled by this turn of events, I arrived on the set in a very uncertain frame of mind about singing The Voyage as à duet, for a number of reasons, but Christy tried to put my mind at rest by telling me that, after a few run-throughs, it would be "sound".
Half way into the first verse of the first run-through - while the camera crew were lining up their shots - the song collapsed due to a clash of rhythms between Christy's version and mine. I began to panic at that stage but Christy held his head, though I noticed the famous beads of sweat on his brow were beginning to swell in size. In a calm tone, he suggested trying the song again with my guitar to the fore.
After a shaky intro, Christy's guitar accompanist, Declan Sinnott, picked up on my tempo and Christy started singing the first verse in a gentle mellifluous flow, throwing me a look of approval to let me know that the arrangement was fine. As he sang the final line of verse one -"For the heart's treasures together we set sail"- he cued me to take over the relay vocal for the second verse and broke into a warm smile when I came in on time. While I was singing my opening line - "Together we're in this relationship" - I smiled back at Christy just as warmly as he had smiled at me and instantly he stopped playing and cursed into his mic: "Japerss wept, I see what you mean, Johnny-It's like I'm Elton John and you're George Michael. Feck that! We'd better get back to the drawing board." Johnny Duhan

The Voyage Song lyrics without the chords
I am a sailor and you’re my first mate;
We signed on together, coupled our fate;
Hauled up our anchor, determined not to fail,
For the heart’s treasure together we set sail.
With no maps to guide us we steered our own course;
Rode the storms when the winds were gale-force;
Sat out the doldrums with patience and hope,
Working together we learned how to cope.
Life is an ocean, and love is a boat,
In troubled waters it keeps us afloat.
When we started the voyage there was just me and you:
Now gathered look around us, we have our own crew.
Together we’re in this relationship;
We built it with care to last the whole trip.
Our true destination’s not marked on a chart,
We’re navigating for the shores of the heart.
I am a sailor and you’re my first mate;

On The Voyage Song Lyrics
On this journey, we set sail
With the wind, we'll prevail
Through the storms and the unknown
We'll find our way, we're not alone
Chorus:
This is our voyage, our destiny
We'll brave the seas, we'll be free
Through the highs and the lows
We'll follow where the wind blows
Verse 2:
We'll leave behind the familiar shore
And all that we've known before
With each wave, we'll leave our fears
And chase our dreams, with no more tears
Chorus:
This is our voyage, our destiny
We'll brave the seas, we'll be free
Through the highs and the lows
We'll follow where the wind blows
Bridge:
The horizon calls, it's calling our name
We'll keep moving forward, we'll never be the same
With each passing day, our hearts will grow
As we navigate this voyage, we'll never let go
Chorus:
This is our voyage, our destiny
We'll brave the seas, we'll be free
Through the highs and the lows
We'll follow where the wind blows
Outro:
So let's raise our sails and set our course
We'll face the challenges with no remorse
For this voyage is ours, it's meant to be
And we'll sail on, to our destiny.
On this journey, we set sail
With the wind, we'll prevail
Through the storms and the unknown
