Seamus Harvey and Gerard McGlynn Lyrics And Chords
Tells the tale of two IRA Volunteers of the West Tyrone Command IRA who died on August 10th 1973 in a premature explosion while en route to destroy a customs post. Following the unveiling of a memorial in 1998 on the exact spot where they died, the line "now upon that spot there may a cross one day be seen" was changed.
[G]Farewell to [Em]Seamus [G]Harvey
Goodbye to Gerard Mc[C]glynn
I hope you're both in [G]Heaven [Em]for you [A]did not die in [D]vain,
While [G]trying to [Em]free your [G]country
your young lives were blown a[C]way
But if ever I get to [G]heaven [Em]I will [D]meet you there one [G]day
[G]They saw a [Em]lot of [G]action and true courage they did [C]show,
Against the occupation [G]forces [Em]of the [A]cruel British [D]foe
Laying [G]mines a[Em]long the [G]border in the county of Ty[C]rone
And never did these com[G]rades [Em]ever [D]fail to hold their [G]own
On that fateful night in August
In the year of 73
They said farewell to loved ones they were never more to see
As they moved towards their target, along that border road,
Their bomb was primed and ready but too early did explode
I'll tell you where it happened
At the Customs at Kilclean
And now upon that spot there,
A cross may now be seen
Dedicated to those young men,
Of the West Tyrone command,
Who fought to raise the Green flag and to free their native land
Farewell to Seamus Harvey
Goodbye to Gerard Mcglynn
I hope you're both in Heaven for you did not die in vain,
While trying to free your country
your young lives were blown away
But if ever I get to heaven I will meet you there one day
But if ever I get to heaven I will meet you there one day
