Sailing Home Lyrics And Chords

The Dublin City Ramblers, 4/4 guitar timing. released in 1985 and from 'The Best Of The Dublin City Ramblers'  The song was written by Dermot O'Brien who also wrote Dublin Town In 1962, Dermot was Ireland's best known accordion player and what a great songwriter he was too.
The chords are by Marc Fahrbach. More of an Irish love song than a sea shanty.

The sheet music / mandolin / tenor banjo tab for Sailing Home is in the ebook of mandolin tabs here . The tin whistle notes are in my other ebook of songs here

D-D-C-G

I'm a (G)liberty boy that (C)I'll never de(G)ny
And I love the old town I was (D)born in
And (G)I rue the day that I (C)sailed a(G)way
On a grey No(D)vember (C)mor(G)ning

Me be(D)loved shed a tear as we (G)stood by the pier
But I (C)told her I (G)had to be (C)go(D)ing
She's my (G)treasure and pearl,
she's my (C)own darling (G)girl
But my wild oats I (D)have to be (C)sow(G)ing -G-G

Chorus
I'm (G)sailing home to (C)Dublin's (G)city
To the one that is waiting for (D)me there
(G)Home again to (C)Dublin's (G)city
Oh how I'm (D)longing to (C)be (G)there

D-D-C-G

I've (G)seen all the sights of this (C)great world’s de(G)lights
And I sailed from Vancouver to (D)Dover
I've (G)hunted the whale and (C)weathered the (G)gale
Now my roving (D)days are all (C)o(G)ver

For I (D)miss Moore Street smell and the (G)auld Liffey swell
And the (C)pigeon house (G)lights in the (C)eve(D)ning
And (G)Sandymount strand where we (C)walked hand in (G)hand
And we watched while the (D)mailboat was (C)leav(G)ing -G-G

Repeat chorus twice

Sailing home to Ireland song lyrics

Sailing on the open sea
The wind is strong, the waves are high
My heart is filled with memories
Of the land where I was born and raised

Chorus:
Oh, I'm sailing home to Ireland
To the land of green and gold
Where the mountains touch the sky
And the stories never grow old

Verse 2:
I left my home so long ago
To chase my dreams and see the world
But now I'm ready to come back
To the place where my heart belongs

Chorus:
Oh, I'm sailing home to Ireland
To the land of green and gold
Where the mountains touch the sky
And the stories never grow old

Bridge:
I can almost hear the music
And the laughter of my kin
The warmth of their embrace
Is calling me back in

Chorus:
Oh, I'm sailing home to Ireland
To the land of green and gold
Where the mountains touch the sky
And the stories never grow old

Outro:
Sailing home to Ireland
To the place I long to be
With every wave that carries me
My heart sings with glee.
Blue sea near the coast showing small waves and dark clouds
