N.Y.P.D. Honour Ireland's Sons Lyrics
(Words and Music Derek Warfield)
Derek wrote.
This song honors the men of the Hunger Strike.
The Commemoration, march and rally in
Bundoran,County, Donegal in 1984.
N.Y.P.D.Pipes and Drums marched despite frantic
efforts by the Dublin powers to have the memory of
the ten men forgotten.
I was proud to be part of organizing the march.
The band leader Finbarr Devine, who passed away
in September 1995. led the band down the streets
of Bundoran
And ensured that the brave men of the hunger strike
were not forgotten by the exiled sons of our land.
This ballad is dedicated to his widow Pat and Finbarr
junior and the members of the band, past and present,
whose courage and dedication, both here and in N,Y,C,
exemplify the best in the Irish American community.
Michael Collins Song By The Wolfe Tones was also written and sang
by Derek Warfield who was the mandolin and banjo player / singer
with the Irish ballad group for many years before leaving.

1
Here's to big strong Dan the pip'in man who walked
with zeal and pride
Here's to John Tansey, the man who talked and
never once he lied
Finbarr Devine his stick in hand to lead pipes and
drums
He'd swing the mace with royal grace to honour
Ireland's Sons
Chorus
Oh the pipes and drums honour Ireland's Sons
On that fair September Day.
When you marched in peace in Ulster's street
Finbar he showed the way.
To ten men dead the band he led to remember every-
one
With the Stars and Stripes and the Green and White
and New York's finest Sons
2
Oh we know you're New York's Finest and they'll
all be proud of you
In the Emerald Isle you walked with in style you're
Ireland's Heros too
In Beautiful Bundoron in the county Donegal
OH the hills of Green with the seaside scene you felt
and marched for all
Chorus as above
3
Oh the Gombeen men were furious for London
they displeased
For to know that Sons of Erin could walk with
pride and ease
The lord mayor there insulted you and jumped to
Whitehall's call
He'll rue the day he didn't cheer,Hurray for Donegal
Chorus as above
4
Your courage in your duty is called for every year
On the streets of New York's City you patroll them
without fear
The bravery of the hungerstrike their patriotic
stand
Your Careers you put in jeopardy to remember
Bobby Sands
Last Chorus.
