Ormonde Folk Lyrics
The lyrics of these great auld songs were sent to the site by Patrick Burke.
Two brothers and two sisters from Kilkenny Ireland made up the ''Ormonde Folk
way back in 1971.Peter, Eamonn,Margaret and Mary Brady.
They were singing then for four years at the time and made many broadcasts for R.T.E. Ireland
Also in the Ballad Street programmes on Radio and on TV at the time as well.
They won the Festival of Ireland Ballad competition in Wexford the same year.
They were invited more than once to the USA where they made a glorious tour to many of the big major cities.
''Mc'Carthys Party'' is one of 14 tracks on their wonderful refreshing LP called Truly Irish
It was recorded ''live'' on a Sunday afternoon, the year 1971 in the Old Sheiling Hotel in Dublin.
Also included on that album was another classic Reilly's Daughter Song which you don't hear much anymore.
Shay Healy Irish television Personality introduced the Ormonde Folk group to a more than lively audience. He wrote, they wrap themselves around you like a warm musical overcoat that he would be happy to wear anywhere.

A noble man you se‘e if you only look at me‘e
The other day I met McCarthy walking down the way
He did say to me will you come to our party,
The house to be sure will be crowded to the door"
we'll all be gay and hearty
at McCarthy's party,
We'll all let down our hair, the Murphys, Burkes & Dailey‘s
Will be there with their sheleighlis,
Where,
down at McCarthy's party.
(Chorus)
Wh‘ey yup at McCarthy's Party every one was hearty,
Someone hit Moloney on the nose,
With the handle of a broom McCarthy swept the room,
Then a row arose & it was murder,
Murphy and his cousin paralysed a half a dozen,
They hit both swift and hard.
A number of the boys will never make a noise,
For they're lying in the ould Church yard,
2
A lady then did cry, for to paceafy,
Mam, but she was a fine 'auld crature,
Roaring like a bull, she was beautiful,
Madame Peters couldn't imitate her,
She opened up her mouth, North, East, West & South, for all the world to see,
She couldn't get it shut, so Murphy put his foot...
Where,
Down at McCarthy's party.
( Chorus as above)
3
Then began the row, I'll tell it to you now,
Burke you see now was a bit of a dandy,
Moloney he got up, said he was a pup,
And told him straight that he wasn't worth candy.
Burke gave him a look,The frying pan he took,
To poor Moloneys nose........
He hit him such a clather right across the nose
Where
Down at McCarthy's party.
(Last Chorus as above at the end)

There are Irish men in Brooklyn, and Chicago, and Detroit.
There's a Celt in every Kipp in Birmingham,

light starvation
There'd be less of immigration Matter a Damn.
1.
Matter a damn with peace and loving
And as gentle as a Saint,
Matter a who's a piece as sweet as Strawberry jam
When your blume is getting blowzy
And your looks are getting lousey
He'el begin to act a bowzy Matter a Damn.
Chorus as above
2.
Haven't you ever wondered whether that about another
kind of lover,
Have you ever tried to dream
about romance,
Only, if I remember I can you can only dream at night
And if you have a husband sure
You'll never get a chance.
(Chorus as above)

Eireann is a Grand Land Lyrics.
1
There's a dear little rock
surrounded by sea
Its the Isle of the Emerald Land
And the wee birds sing there
all day long
And the song they sing is grand.
Chorus
Eireann is a grand land
All year round
Its a grand land I tell you
Eireann is a grand land
All year round
Its a grand land I tell you.
2
And through that rock
there runs a river
The Shannon is its name
Mighty and strong it flows along
Its a river of great fame.
Chorus
The Shannon is a grand river all year round
Its a grand river
I tell you
The Shannon is a grand river all year round
Its a grand river I tell you.
3
Near the Shannon is a Cemetery Vault
For the whole world to view.
There Daniel O'Connell's body lies
And his heart was ever true.
Chorus.
O'Connell was a grand man all year round
Was a grand man I tell you
O'Connell was a grand man all year round
Was a grand man I tell you.
4
Here's to Eireann's lovely land
Its the gem of all the seas
The peace and plenty all
her smiles
And grant her liberty.
5
Her Sons and Daughters live in peace
With Blessings not a few
May happiness will follow with peace
As the sky looks clear and blue.
Last Chorus
Eireann is a grand land
All year round
Its a grand land I tell you
Eireann is a grand land
All year round
Its a grand land
I tell you.
