Let The Hare Sit Song Lyrics And Guitar Chord

Written by John (johnnybap) McConnell. "Let the hare sit" was a saying my grandfather frequently used, more or less meaning, take it easy/ calm down/ chill out etc, now used by my father and ourselves. It is also the name we used for our two piece when we played the pubs and clubs of Belfast. Brilliant song Gerard and well played.
[G] Growing up on the [Bm] streets of Belfast, [C] wondering what to [D] do,
[C] Then someone came a-[D]-long and took my [G] hand, [D]
The [G] Grosvenor road’s no [Bm] place to be,
For a [C] boy with a cargo [D] full of dreams,
[C] So get a move on [D] quick while you still [G] can,

Bridge
[Bm] There’s no more [C] laws that can be [D] broken,
[Bm] There’s no more [C] words left here un-[D]-spoken,
And as I [G] walk back into the [Bm] Dwyers,
I see the [C] people put out the [D] fires,
[C] And I know my-[D]-self that this is [G] home,

Chorus
[C] This is the [D] place that I have [G] been a long, long [Em] time,
[C] Without the lads I [D] couldn’t call it [G] mine,
[C] From the Dunville [D] park right to Dis-[G]-tillery [Em] street,
[C] This is my real [D] home I admit de-[G]-feat,
[C] This is my real [D] home down Roden [G] street,

[G] Watching kids playing [Bm] in the street,
[C] Granddad tips his hat to every-[D]-one he meets,
[C] With his hands held [D] clutched right behind his [G] back, [D]
[G] Teasie sitting [Bm] in the shade, and us [C] kids all stealing her [D] lemonade,
[C] Can we have a [D] piece, ach go away [G] on,

Bridge + Chorus

[G] Heading round to see [Bm] Granny and Stow,
And see the [C] ingrown toenail [D] on his toe,
[C] I always wondered why [D] granddad didn’t [G] smile, [D]
[G] Grannies laugh would always [Bm] light the day,
And [C] Patrick walking Greyhounds [D] every day,
[C] Let the hare [D] sit son, you’re at [G] home,

Bridge + Chorus

Can we have a piece, ach go away on,

Heading round to see Granny and Stow,

And Patrick walking Greyhounds every day,
Let the hare sit son, you’re at home,
