Hail Glorious Saint Patrick Lyrics, Guitar Chords And Sheet Music

The chords below fit the Wolfe Tones’ version. The lyrics differ sometimes slightly and the Tones only used the verses 1, 4, 5 and the below optional verse with the optional repeat, a traditional hymn I was always very fond of and with St. Patrick's day nearly upon us what better time to include it. Guitar chords in the chordpro format by Marc Fahrbach and another first for this site. Sheet music notes included, time signature 3/4. Also I have now added the tenor guitar / mandola tab in CGDA tuning.

Song Words Without The Chords

Hail, glorious St. Patrick, dear saint of our isle,

On us thy poor children bestow a sweet smile;

nd now that you’re high in your mansions above,
On Erin's green valleys look down with your love.
On Erin's green valleys, on Erin's green valleys,
On Erin's green valleys look down with your love.

Hail, glorious St. Patrick, thy words were once strong
Against Satan's wiles and a heretic throng;
Not less is thy might where in Heaven thou art;
Oh, come to our aid, in our battle take part!

In a war against sin, in the fight for the faith,
Dear Saint, may thy children resist to the death;
May their strength be in meekness, in penance, and prayer,
Their banner the Cross, which they glory to bear.

Thy people, now exiles on many a shore,
Shall love and revere thee till time be no more;
And the fire thou hast kindled shall ever burn bright,
Its warmth undiminished, undying its light.

God bless and defend the sweet land of our birth,
Where the shamrock still blooms as when thou wert on earth,
And our hearts shall yet burn, wherever we roam,
For God and St. Patrick, and our native home.

Optional verse
Hail Glorious Saint Patrick you're Erin's great pride,
Watch down on the Celts on the banks of the Clyde,
With green and white banners a cross and a prayer,
Where Erin's green valleys look down on Parkhead
