A Mother's Loves A Blessing Lyrics And Chords

[Folk Song]I think this one comes from Newfoundland. Recorded by Irish singers Susan McCann, Brendan Shine, Bridie Gallagher who had another big hit with the song Noreen Bawn and by Foster And Allen.  The youtube video is by Majella and what a wonderful version it is and that's the version I have set the guitar chords to. The guitar chords can also be played on the mandolin or banjo and are in chordpro. The most popular version, on youtube anyway is by Jim Brickman, Majella, then Bridie Gallagher, followed by Brendan Shine. As you'll notice most are Irish singers.
An Irish boy was leaving
Leaving his native home
Crossing the broad Atlantic
Once more he wished to roam
And as he was leaving his mother
Who was standing at the quay
She threw her arms around his waist
And this to him did say
[Chorus]
A mother's love's a blessing
No matter where you roam
Keep her while she's living
You'll miss her when she's gone
Love her as in childhood
Though feeble old and grey
For you'll never miss your mother's love
Till she's buried beneath the clay

And as the years grow older
I'll settle down in life
And choose a nice young colleen
And take her for my wife
And as the babies grow older
And climb around my knee
I'll teach them the very same lesson
That my mother thought to me
[Repeat chorus]

A Mothers Love's A Blessing lyrics only
An Irish boy was leaving
Leaving his native home
Crossing the broad Atlantic
Once more he wished to roam
And as he was leaving his mother
Who was standing at the quay
She threw her arms around his waist
And this to him did say
[Chorus]
A mother's love's a blessing
No matter where you roam
Keep her while she's living
You'll miss her when she's gone
Love her as in childhood
Though feeble old and grey
For you'll never miss your mother's love
Till she's buried beneath the clay

And as the years grow older
I'll settle down in life
And choose a nice young colleen
And take her for my wife
And as the babies grow older
And climb around my knee
I'll teach them the very same lesson
That my mother thought to me
[Repeat chorus]

Poem Of A Mother's Love

A mother's love, pure and true
A bond that lasts a lifetime through
A love that's patient, kind and strong
A love that guides and rights the wrong

From the moment of conception
A mother's love knows no exception
Nurturing and protecting with all her might
A love that shines in the darkest of night

She carries her child with a heart so full
Through every kick, every flutter, every pull
And when the time comes to bring new life
Her love transforms into a selfless sacrifice

She holds her baby, so small and frail
A love so deep, it could never fail
She watches them grow, with pride and joy
Her love, an unbreakable, unending alloy

Through scraped knees and broken hearts
A mother's love never departs
She's there to soothe and to heal
Her love, a constant, unwavering seal

She teaches, she guides, she molds and shapes
A mother's love never escapes
She sees the potential in her child's eyes
And helps them reach for the highest skies

As the years go by, and the child grows
A mother's love continues to flow
Through every triumph, every fall
Her love remains, standing tall

And even when the child is grown
A mother's love is never shown
For it resides deep within the heart
A love that never truly departs

A mother's love, so fierce and pure
A love that will forever endure
For in this world of chaos and strife
A mother's love is the greatest gift of life.
