WHEN YOU'RE DOWN AND OUT Lyrics and guitar chords
(Capo up 3 in G) Words and music by Paddy Tinsley. This song is about my love of freedom and the tranquillity of nature, being homeless and broke, the morning after affects of the drink and the fact that a Busker is damned to the confusion and entrapment of city life. This song, to me is pretty much like the Danny Farrell song which is also about a homeless traveler living on the streets of Dublin.
(G)I woke to the sound of the (C)birds
Singin' in the (G)mornin'
From their secret world
A(C)mong the leafy (D)trees
And I (G)touched the breeze with my (C)flesh
And I felt it (G)soothin'
'Twas a feelin' that no (D)one could take from (G)me
Chorus:
When you're (D)down and out
And maybe (G)short of a pound
You can (D)see the world
In a (C)different (G)light
If your (D)mind is blown
You don't be (G)needin' a home
Just the (D)will to keep you
A (C)ramblin' (G)on
I steered my way around the
The obstacles of that mornin'
That were visible
Only for me to see
And I jumped a train in a state
Of shear desperation
I'd a frightenin' thought that demons followed me
The train brought me to the outskirts
Of another city
Where the taste of life
Appealed no more to me
Than to animals in the zoo
Locked up in their cages
Just a hopin' that some day they could be free
I tried to conform to the ways
Of that revilin' city
So I flung myself
With gusto in the spree
But I knew in my heart an' soul
There was somethin' missin'
'Twas the song of the birds driftin' o'er the breeze
(G)I woke to the sound of the (C)birds
Singin' in the (G)mornin'
From their secret world
A(C)mong the leafy (D)trees
And I (G)touched the breeze with my (C)flesh
And I felt it (G)soothin'
'Twas a feelin' that no (D)one could take from (G)me
