Tell My Little Girl Lyrics By Johnny Flynn Showband

During the troubled times, a young Irish soldier died for freedom. Beneath his body they found a letter to his loved ones, this is what it said. This little song is about a girl called Mary who's father is going off to fight for his country. Another ''Mary'' song is a Donegal one called Mary From Dungloe Song which is also a farewell song.

I hope they find this letter that I'm writing,
Got to hurry I know there's not much time
Our gallant men can't hold them off much longer
When reinforcements get here I know what they'll find.

Mary there's so many things I need to tell you
How it breaks my heart to leave you all along
How many times I prayed that I'd be with you
On the night our little baby girl was born.

chorus
Tell my little girl goodbye
Tell her daddy said don't cry
Though I never held her close
I love her so
Tell her someone had to fight
To keep freedom's candle bright
Oh Mary tell my little girl goodbye.

The're coming now there's no way we can stop them
I see a vision flash it burns inside
With my dying strenght I place this note beneath me
Mary tell her it's for freedom that I die.

Tell my little girl goodbye
Tell her daddy said don't cry
Though I never held her close
I love her so
Tell her someone had to fight
To keep freedom's candle bright
Oh Mary tell my little girl goodbye.
Here's the guitar chords. Johnny Flynn Showband play this song in the key of Bb. I changed the key to make it easier to play.
