As of Wednesday the 25th of March Hit The Diff song by Marty Mone has received 463,062 hits on youtube. That's an impressive amount of views for a song that's not played on any mainstream radio station in Ireland.
Along with Marty Mone's video, other people have made videos from his song and placed them on youtube. I counted at least 20 other videos of the song on youtube and some of these had hits up to 30,000 views. Marty only released the song to youtube on 29th of December 2014, so within two months Marty's Hit The Diff song should reach over half a million hits.
This should be an inspiration to other musicians and song writers out there. At long last Irish singers don't need radio play from the likes of R.T.E. or Today F.M or whoever else think they control the music scene in Ireland. Mainstream radio presenters and media owners had a monopoly in Ireland for generations. They dictated what genre of music their audience should listen to. As for folk music being played on Irish radio,,well you would be more likely to win the lotto than here our native songs on Irish radio.
A few years ago nobody would have thought there would be a demand for a song about a differential gearbox on a tractor. It just goes to show that if a song is well written with a catchy chorus people will listen to it and buy it.
Well done Marty Mone.
